Last year I bought the Northern Lights book and made good use of it. This year Northern Lights has a coupon for 25% off flightseeing for a party of four (so basically buy 3, get 1 free). But you must have four people.

Note that there is no "best" coupon book. Depending on your activities and the available coupons and discounts, perhaps Toursaver will be a better deal for you (even though it costs more), or perhpaps the Northern Lights book will be a better deal for you. The only way to truly know is to go to the websites listed above, check out all the offers, and calculate how much you will save with each book.

The Northern Lights book is more like an "Entertainment" book with coupons for lots of other activities, restaurants, fitness clubs, (ta && ta.queueForLoad ? ta.queueForLoad : function(f, g)document.addEventListener('DOMContentLoaded', f);)(function()ta.trackEventOnPage('postLinkInline', 'impression', 'postLinks-38721657', '');, 'log_autolink_impression');car discounts, etc. The one nice thing about the Northern Lights book is that you can share COUPONS without having to share the entire book (Toursaver coupons can only be removed at the vendor when you check in as was mentioned in the first post).

I believe that typically books can be ordered in October for the following calendar year. If you are undecided which to purchase, a simple spreadsheet of the activities you're planning to do and "check" if it is featured in either or both of the books along with the discount offered.

If you are traveling late in the season (July or later) or if they run out of them, you might check out eBay to see if you can pick one up from someone who's already been and returned with unused coupons. BE CAREFUL, however, to be sure that the discounts you are looking for are still in the book.

Yes we learned today that the link to our former thread in Top Questions on the discount books was gone. This thread was created specifically to address the need to have ready access to the information so many folks come here to obtain.

Also - you don't need to have the Toursaver or Alaska-discounts book in your hand when you make a reservation. (So you don't have to wait for the book to arrive to reserve a trip.) But you do need to have the coupon book with you when you go on the excursion.

To book the discounted flights, head to Alaska's dedicated sale's page and enter a departure city in the lower 48 states and a destination of either Fairbanks or Anchorage. Make sure the departure and return dates are between January 13 and February 12. The discount code BOREALIS must also be in the promo field. Then pack your best parka, and get ready to see one of the most dazzling natural spectacles in the world.

Since the sun is busy doing its own nuclear fission thing all the time, frequency and strength both vary. But when it comes to where you can see the northern lights in Alaska, strength matters more. Stronger solar activity creates brighter, bigger aurora, which can be seen by more of the globe.

Now that you have enough to choose where to go, which tour(s) to book, and where to stay on your northern lights trip to Alaska, I have just a few more tips based on my trip. I learned these the hard way on my most recent trip.

Welcome to the Aurora Borealis Lodge. We are located just 20 miles north of Fairbanks in the famed Cleary Summit area, known locally and internationally as one of the best places to view the northern lights in the world!

The northern lights, whose scientific name is aurora borealis, are a colorful light show that fills the sky with swirls and shades of color. This natural phenomenon takes place when charged particles from the sun enter the atmosphere and show up as shades of green, red, violet and white dancing in the night sky. The exact color depends on the type of gas the charged particles collide with in the atmosphere.

Now that you know when and where to go to see the northern lights, you can start preparing to enjoy the incredible experience. Dress warmly and choose clothing you can wear in layers. Your best chance to see the lights is in the middle of the night, and you may wait for hours before catching a glimpse of the display. Bring a tripod or monopod if you want to take pictures of the event, and pack a few extra batteries, because cold weather can drain them quickly.

To maximize your chance of witnessing the northern lights, get off the boat and join a land excursion to Fairbanks. The aurora season in Fairbanks lasts from the end of August to April and the lights can be seen four out of five nights if the sky is clear.

Best time in 2021 for a Northern Lights tour in CanadaThe Best Value Aurora Viewing tour run every day of the year except for April, May, June, and July. However, if you want to have a better chance of seeing the northern lights, I advise you not to book the tour in August or September.

Beyond the northern lights, Fairbanks is known for its museums, such as the Fountainhead Antique Auto Museum, the Morris Thompson Cultural & Visitors Center, and the University of Alaska Museum of the North. In the summer, when Fairbanks experiences the midnight sun (when the sky remains light all night long), there are plenty of festivals and fairs, including the popular Midnight Sun Festival, which sees 30,000 people gather for 12 hours of live music, shopping, and good eats. Fairbanks also serves as a good jumping-off point for excursions into Denali National Park or the arctic, whether on day trips or multi-day adventures.

Polar lights (aurora polaris) are a natural phenomenon found in both the northern and southern hemispheres that can be truly awe inspiring. Northern lights are also called by their scientific name, aurora borealis, and southern lights are called aurora australis.

Each Alaska tour has a different cost. You'll find that some are as low as $150 a day, and they also go up in price depending on how long the tour is and what places are included. Luckily, by booking through Affordable Tours, you're guaranteeing a great price. Often, Alaska tours are offered at a discounted rate, sometimes even up to 45% off the advertised price.

On our spring 2023 Alaska Northern Lights Tour, you will spend several days viewing the northern lights in the vicinity of the village of Wiseman. This quaint village (population 15) is one of the best places in Alaska and in North America to see the Aurora Borealis. In addition, this tour is happening during one of the best months for northern lights viewing. In March and April, there are generally frequent displays and clear skies.

Our sun has a 12 year cycle of activity and as it becomes more active, there will be more sightings of the northern (and southern) lights. In 2023, we are almost at the peak of the 12 year cycle. As a result, we therefore expect the northern lights viewing to be excellent in 2023.

This morning, we drive up Chena Hot Springs Road to the Chena Hot Springs Resort, internationally known for its natural mineral hot springs. This facility is kept at a constant 28 degrees F and is operational year round with the same geothermal energy that keeps the resort open for business. Take a dip in the hot springs and ssoak your tried bodies in the legendary healing mineral waters. After lunch, we will visit the Aurora Ice Museum. The museum features a gallery and ice bar, overhead chandeliers made of individually carved ice crystals which change color every six seconds mimicking the northern lights, countless sculptures including a gigantic chess set, life sized jousting knights, an ice fireplace and four galleries with varying themes. The entire resort is powered by the utilization of the 165 degrees hot springs ground water, which flows to a heat exchanger to develop the heating system loop and transformed to electrical power for lighting and power at the resort. There is also a green house where the fruits and vegetables used at the restaurant are grown. You will be heading back to Fairbanks in the afternoon, drop your bags at your hotel before enjoying your farewell dinner at the Pump House Restaurant, which offers one of the best dining experiences in Fairbanks.

This morning you will bid farewell to Alaska and your travel companions. You return home enchanted by the northern lights and an appreciation for the magic of winter in Alaska that you have discovered on this unique Alaska Northern Lights Tour. You will bring back memories that will last a lifetime.

I recently got back from a northern lights tour with Laurent and the entire experience was incredible. His knowledge of Alaska and the northern lights was so helpful in having a successful time viewing that colorful light dance in the sky. He also taught me how to set the camera up to take pictures of it. The places he set us up to stay were also very nice, clean and quaint. I would definitely recommend his tours to anyone interested and I am hoping to get the opportunity to go on another one sometime soon. Thanks so much! 350c69d7ab
