There is something about spring that makes us crave a reset.
The light shifts. The air softens. And suddenly, the clutter we’ve been tolerating all winter feels… heavy.
But here’s the truth:
The spring purge is not about throwing everything away.
It’s about creating breathing room — physically and mentally.
Today I’m walking you through a calm, elevated, and manageable approach to decluttering and organizing your home — without overwhelm.
Let’s begin...
Step 1: Shift Your Mindset (Before You Touch a Single Drawer)
This is not a weekend of chaos.
This is a seasonal ritual.
Instead of asking, “What should I get rid of?”
Ask:
“What supports the home I want to live in this year?”
We are editing with intention — not reacting.
Create 3 categories:
Keep
Donate
Relocate
Avoid a “maybe” pile. That’s where clutter quietly survives.
Step 2: Start Small (Always)
Choose one contained space:
A bathroom vanity
A kitchen drawer
Your bedside table
A single closet shelf
When you complete small zones, you build momentum.
Set a 30-minute timer and focus on finishing one micro-area beautifully.
Step 3: Clear Surfaces FirstVisual clutter creates mental clutter.
Start by clearing:
Kitchen counters
Bathroom vanities
Entryway tables
Bedroom dressers
Once cleared, only return items that are:
Used daily
Beautiful
Functional
This is where smart storage makes all the difference.
Elevated Storage Solutions That Actually Work
The goal is not stuffing things into bins.
The goal is intentional containment.
Here are a few of my favorite functional-but-beautiful storage upgrades:
1. Woven Storage Baskets (Living Room + Bedrooms)
A set of structured woven baskets instantly warms a space while hiding:
Throw blankets
Kids toys
Extra pillows
Magazines
Look for natural seagrass or water hyacinth with built-in handles for easy movement.(Amazon has beautiful neutral options that blend seamlessly with cozy interiors - view options here.
2. Clear Drawer Organizers (Kitchen + Bathroom)
Nothing transforms a drawer faster than structured inserts.
Use:
Seeing everything at once prevents overbuying and eliminates clutter buildup.
3. Under-Bed Storage (The Hidden Gold Mine)
This space is often wasted.
Use low-profile rolling bins or zippered fabric containers for:
Seasonal bedding
Winter sweaters
Extra linens
Choose neutral fabric bins rather than plastic tubs for a softer look.
4. Matching Hangers in Closets
This might be the most underrated upgrade.
Switching to slim velvet hangers:
Instantly creates visual calm
Saves space
Keeps clothes from slipping
Edit your wardrobe while you’re at it — if you didn’t wear it this winter, ask yourself why.
5. Entryway Drop Zone Systems
Spring is the perfect time to rework your entry.
Add:
When everything has a place, clutter stops at the door.
Step 4: The Closet Edit (Without Regret)
Turn all your hangers backward.
As you wear items this season, flip them forward.
At the end of summer, you’ll see exactly what you never reached for.
Be honest.
If it doesn’t fit your current lifestyle or personal style — release it.
Step 5: Create “White Space”
Not every shelf needs to be full.
Leave space between objects.
Leave breathing room in cabinets.
Leave margin in your closet.
White space is what makes a home feel elevated.
Step 6: Organize by Lifestyle — Not Pinterest Perfection
Your systems should reflect how you actually live.
If you:
Drop mail on the island → create a mail basket there.
Always kick off shoes at the garage → add storage there.
Pile blankets in the living room → add a beautiful basket nearby.
Work with your habits — not against them.
What to Do With What You Remove
Donate immediately. Don’t let it sit in the garage.
Sell high-value items quickly (if it takes longer than two weeks, let it go).
Recycle responsibly.
Gift thoughtfully.
Clutter stored elsewhere is still clutter.
A Gentle Reminder
You don’t need more bins.
You need fewer things.
Organization is not about containment.
It’s about clarity.
When your home feels lighter, your decisions feel lighter.
And that energy shifts everything.
