Better Basketball Read And React Offense 19

This is the only layer that does NOT require a reaction based on a action. Your players will read the weak side help and alignment to set their pin screen. Essentially, the pin screen is set on the player closes to the ball with the most distance to recover.

Layer 8 refers to the reaction that takes place when dribble penetration is shut down by the defense. As in Layer 1, when dribble penetration happens the perimeter players begin the circle movement. When they see the dribble penetration is stopped by the defense, the offense reverses the circle movement to help the ball-handler.

The clinician, Rick Torbett, is considered one of the foremost basketball teaching authorities in the world and distributes teaching videos on betterbasketball.com, many of which involve his Read and React offense. At that clinic, Czeslawski saw the future of his program with Read and React, an offense that can be taught in layers, offers flexibility against man or zone defenses and can be difficult to scout.

In the ever-evolving world of offensive basketball, Read and React is the latest system to offer coaches ways to attack by utilizing spacing, providing flexibility based on personnel and allowing teams to create offense through coordinated effort. Dribble-Drive Motion, motion and Princeton are other popular ways that use some similar concepts.

I met recently with the head coach of the Central Catholic girls varsity basketball program Casey Grange. Coach Grange talked to me about the intricacies of their read and react motion offense and why it works for their team. She also shared one simple drill that makes a big difference in the success of this offense.

A third principle of the read and react is that Central Catholic can set a screen away from the ball on the outside defender for any team that is showing significant help toward the ball. Screening the outside gives assurance that a skip pass will arrive to its target and make a close out one step slower.

The primary benefit Coach Grange cited is that unlike set plays, the defense cannot cheat. Bob Hurley Sr. and Bobby Knight were always advocates for working on two hours of offense and two hours of defense during a two-hour practice. After the initial nuts and bolts are in place, the read and react, and whatever type of defense the team employs can be put in place. Defenses get in better habits since they do not know what the offense might try. Players must learn to contain the offense rather than gamble and go for hero plays.

With sets every part of the offense has to be compartmentalized. And if one player gets thrown into a position they are unfamiliar with the whole offense suffers. To a degree, the read and react offense does need to be broken down piece by piece as well. Coach Grange told me that the team has to grow in how they set back screens out of it. That said, once it is broken down piece by piece the offensive players are not robotic. They exploit defensive mistakes, which forces defenses to think and work harder than they would against a play they have memorized.

Before widespread school district consolidation, most American high schools were far smaller than their present-day counterparts. During the first decades of the 20th century, basketball quickly became the ideal interscholastic sport due to its modest equipment and personnel requirements. In the days before widespread television coverage of professional and college sports, the popularity of high school basketball was unrivaled in many parts of America. Perhaps the most legendary of high school teams was Indiana's Franklin Wonder Five, which took the nation by storm during the 1920s, dominating Indiana basketball and earning national recognition.

The objective of rebounding is to successfully gain possession of the basketball after a missed field goal or free throw, as it rebounds from the hoop or backboard. This plays a major role in the game, as most possessions end when a team misses a shot. There are two categories of rebounds: offensive rebounds, in which the ball is recovered by the offensive side and does not change possession, and defensive rebounds, in which the defending team gains possession of the loose ball. The majority of rebounds are defensive, as the team on defense tends to be in better position to recover missed shots.

Most college basketball conferences set up policies instituting forfeits in the preseason, thinking that it would be incentivize teams to become fully vaccinated. But the spread of omicron may give some leagues pause or make them re-consider those decisions given the spate of cancellations and postponements over the past week.

While COVID has remained part of the NFL season, the league is in much better shape that it was at this time last season. The NFL had already rescheduled multiple games ahead of Thanksgiving last season but has not had to do so this year. It was also at this time last season that the NFL infamously had to postpone its prime-time Thanksgiving Day game between Pittsburgh and Baltimore until the following Sunday after an outbreak within the Ravens complex. The league later admitted after the season was finished that it was that game and the outbreak within Baltimore that was the closest it had come to having to add an extra week to the regular season, a step that did not end up needing to be taken.

And, of course, tea has shown up on social media in a plethora of reaction memes, GIFs, hashtags, BuzzFeed listicles, and even a meta take on the 2015 show "Scream Queens". (Whether that last one is a positive or a negative is up to the individual reader.) For now, we're letting it steep.

Of the NBA's 22 teams, Atlanta is 19th in offense and second (behind Portland) in defense. If pro basketball were strictly numbers, with no room for intangibles, most of the Hawks would end up out on the street. Instead, they have fashioned a 48-29 record that is bettered only by the league's five top powers -- Boston, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Seattle, and Phoenix. 076b4e4f54
